What is an adjustment?

When a subluxation occurs, the chiropractor is trained to correct the misaligned joint and allow it to return to its proper motion. This procedure is called an adjustment and the adjustment enables the nervous system to heal the body.
The chiropractic adjustment is a quick thrust applied to a vertebra for the purpose of correcting its position, movement or both.
The objective of the chiropractic adjustment is to reduce the subluxation, which results in reduced nerve irritation (often reducing pain and inflammation over the course of days or weeks), an increased range of motion, reduced muscle spasm and improved nervous system function of the immediate area and the organs and tissues that the nerves are linked to.
Here at Chiropractic Family Care Mt. Barker, the spine & neck will be adjusted using a gentle combination of techniques ranging from light repetitive adjustments to encourage rather than force the movement of the joints using our 4 piece drop tables, the use of the iQ Impulse Adjusting Instrument, muscle testing (AK), NK technique and manual adjustments when necessary or when requested.
